Thanksgiving Kitchen Preparation

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and you will want every corner of your house ready for the festivities. Your kitchen, in particular, will be the MVP of the week, so why not make sure it is in tip-top shape for the month’s main event?

Here we have a simple guide to make your day as smooth as possible:

1) Clean!

You will undoubtedly be using a plethora of kitchen tools from your oven to the countertops while cooking your Thanksgiving meal. Make sure everything you will need is cleaned and ready to go prior to the big day. Not only is this sanitary, but you will save a great chunk of time on the day of.

While cleaning your kitchen, remove all unnecessary items and appliances that occupy your countertops. If they won’t be any use to you while cooking this hearty meal, store it away for the weekend. This will de-clutter your kitchen and provide more usable counter space.

2) Check Your Equipment

A dysfunctional appliance is the last thing you need to be worrying about. Don’t wait until the last minute to find out if any equipment you may need for cooking is working or not. It’s better to get it fixed or replaced ahead of time, rather than be faced with disaster during show time.

3) Purge Your Storage Areas

You may find yourself needing extra storage space to accommodate everything you need. Use this prep time to clear room in your cabinets. This is also a great time to discard anything that may not be of use to you anymore or that may be broken.

If an item is still useful but not for Thanksgiving dinner, consider temporarily storing it elsewhere.

4) Organize Your Fridge

There is no fighting that plenty of food will be consumed during Turkey Day and you will need room to store all of it before and after dinner. Take the time to scour your fridge and get rid of everything that has expired and rearrange what is left. Do your best to save the shelves for your Thanksgiving dishes and to store other items in drawers.

5) Prep the Dining Table

Here is where your meal comes together! Your dining table is the finish line and success always looks good. Get your dining room ready to go by clearing it off and cleaning the surface. If seat cushions need to be cleaned, do so.

Your final step it to set the table and voila! You are ready for Thanksgiving!
