All fragile ornaments should be wrapped in either clean moving paper or bubble wrap to keep them from rubbing or hitting each other while they are moved into or out of the self storage unit. If possible, using purchased or homemade divider cells inside the cardboard box or plastic tub is the ideal way to pack ornaments. These cardboard dividers are placed in a way to make individual cells for each ornament. After filling each cell, loose packing material, such as shredded paper can be sprinkled into all of the gaps to give the ornaments even more cushioning.
Often people will make jokes about the difficulty of struggling to untangle and hang up strings of holiday lights. The problems most people have can easily be solved if a little extra care is taken when the lights are put away at the end of the holiday season. Each string of lights should be wrapped around a piece of sturdy cardboard to keep them from tangling. The cardboard can be labeled with the section of the house where that string of light is to be hung. When it comes time to hang the lights the following year, each string can be unwound as it is hung in its proper place and the entire job can be finished quickly and with no hassles.
