Self Storage Units for Memorabilia Collectors

memorabiliasAnyone that is very into collecting memorabilia soon realizes that their living space seems to be shrinking as their collection grows. Mounting shelving for the collection is not always a feasible solution or it is a solution that may not be affective for very long if the collection is rapidly growing. Instead of moving to a larger home or paring down their prized collection, they can rent a self storage unit to keep a large portion of their collection so that their home is not overrun by the memorabilia.

Renting a self storage unit is quick and easy. With many locations having resident managers and long daily hours, the collector can stop in at their own convenience to talk to someone about renting a storage unit. Some self storage facilities even offer the convenience of using their web site to choose the proper unit size and pay the monthly rental fee. This can be quite useful for collectors that travel often.

If the collection of memorabilia is valuable, either monetarily or sentimentally, then it should be properly insured and placed in a storage unit tat has a controlled temperature and humidity level. Often, these climate controlled storage units are located off of hallways inside a large building which also offers an added protection against the dirt and dust that might come into a regular storage unit that opens directly to the outside.

Once the bulk of the memorabilia collection is moved into storage, it is not out of reach. There is usually a self storage facility located within a short drive of most homes. The collector can easily add or remove items whenever they like during the gate hours of the storage facility, which are usually longer than the daily office hours. If, for some reason, they need to access their storage unit at a time outside of the gate hours, special arrangements with the manager would need to be made so that the facility alarm system does not go off.

Most self storage facilities have many different devices that will help keep the memorabilia collection safe while it is stored on their grounds. These usually include a fence or wall that surrounds the property and has one or two access gates that are only able to be opened with a code that is entered in a keypad. There are ample security cameras and lighting in place. In addition, each storage unit is secured with a padlock or combination lock.
