Self Storage for Seasonal Possessions

holiday decorationsFor those people that have very little or no real storage space on their own property, renting a self storage unit is the ideal way to be able to keep possessions that are only used during certain seasons of the year. Using a conveniently located self storage unit leaves the space in the home for things that are currently in use and allows the people to have a less cluttered living space.

For those that celebrate Christmas in their homes, there can be quite a few holiday items to store for the rest of the year. The various Christmas items may include Christmas cards, wrapping paper, and special serving dishes or tableware along with an artificial tree, indoor and outdoor lights, and door wreaths. Nowadays, yards are often decorated with large, inflated holiday decorations. Placing all of these items in a self storage unit keeps them safe and accessible. If a decoration is forgotten when everything else is stored in the unit, someone can quickly and easily head to the storage facility to drop it off.

Lawn furniture and outdoor toys for children are often left unprotected through the year because families do not have the room to bring everything indoors. The constant exposure to all types of weather can cause these items to wear out quicker. In addition, they often become dirty and discolored. Placing them all in a nearby self storage unit protects them during the seasons when they are not regularly in use.

Instead of using the garage to store bicycles, lawn mowers, and other powered lawn care tools, placing them in a self storage unit frees up the space so that the family might actually be able to park their vehicle in the garage. Even bicycles and motorcycles can be kept in certain self storage units. However, if motorcycles, fuel powered tools, or gas grills are going to be place in a storage unit, the fuel tanks must be empty as a safety precaution. This may be an inconvenience for someone that wants to take their motorcycle out for a ride on a warm winter day, but it is better to keep everything safe from a fuel-fed fire at the storage facility.

Seasonal clothing is often placed in a self storage unit to free up limited closet and dresser space. When the weather gets colder, the summer clothes are stored and when the weather warms up, the winter clothes are stored.
